About Me

Hello! I am known as Lyssa Arktoi on the internet and in the Pagan community, although I do have a 'muggle' name. I choose to go by my gifted name because I believe it describes me better. Lyssa is short for Lysandra, which means 'the one who is freed.' Arktoi is Greek, referring to the little girls who play-acted the part of a bear at the temple of Artemis at Brauron. My name was partly chosen (I chose 'Lyssa') and partly given to me in a spirit journey by the goddess Artemis, who called me Arktoi.

In my religious life, I am fall under the Pagan umbrella. I am mostly Hellenic Polytheistic, but I am not strictly reconstructionist. Strict reconstructionists are dedicated to recreating the practices of ancient Greece, but I have a little Eclectic in me as well. I am devoted to the goddesses Artemis, Hestia and Athena, the three chaste goddesses. I also honor the rest of the Theoi, particularly Hera and Persephone, the latter of whom has been making her presence felt in my life as of late.

I am married to a wonderful man, known as Rune in Pagan circles, and we have two adorable cats, Gypsy and Roma. Rune is a strange combination of Episcopalian Christianity mixed with Norse and Celtic Paganism. Gypsy and Roma are wonderful devotees of the Cat Goddess, making our lives difficult with their 'Screw this object!' knocking stuff over and at the same time being so adorable that you don't care that your favorite mug just shattered.

I am a teacher by day, and this year I will be substitute teaching. I am going to use this time to work on my Etsy store, Lyssa's Treasures, I sell devotional prayer beads, everyday devotional jewelry, wire wrapped stones, tarot bags, and more.

Thank you for reading this blog!
